Whittling knives for children are generally a little smaller than full-sized multifunctional bushcraft knives. A good whittling knife offers an exceptionally sharp cutting blade which is made of stainless steel, carbon tool steel or a form of laminated knife steel. The sharper the blade, the safer the knife as there will be no urge to add unneeded force to make cuts into the object that is being carved.
The Features of Children's Whittling Knives
Some of the children's whittling knives offer smaller handles and enlarged finger guards to meet with health and safety guidelines. Some whittling knives from brands such as Mora of Sweden also offer a range of 'safe' children's carving knives which incorporate rounded tips to reduce the chances of puncture injuries to a bare minimum.
Some outdoor educators encourage the use of full-sized bushcraft and whittling knives on forest school courses because the larger handles offer the student more control over the knife. For this reason we also offer full-size whittling knives too.
Fixed or Folding Blades for Whittling?
As well as fixed blade whittling knives, we have a selection of folding knives often used for whittling. Folding knives are used far less than fixed blade knives for wood carving, but we offer some very well-made knives from world-renowned brands such as Opinel of France, which we highly recommend.
