"I bought this item a couple of months ago after having been spoon carving for a few years. I am by no means an expert, and certainly not a professional, but I have made quite a lot over the years, many of which have been given away as presents. Prior to purchasing this I had been mostly using the mora frost carving knives, which I had always been happy with. However, after a few years of use (and occasional abuse during some of the few spoon clubs I've led where I leant them to people) I was looking at whether a straight replacement would be best or 'upgrading' to something better. After a good look at the alternatives I found this set, and then found that this site seemed to be selling them cheapest. Once it arrived I was a little surprised that it had an extra straight heavy duty blade to advertised on this item (they've got it on the basic carving kit picture and description though). I'm not sure if that is an error on their website or despatch department though? Either way it is a brilliant kit. The handle is really comfortable to use even for long sessions, the blades are incredibly sharp and hold an edge really well, and the 3 way locking mechanism is a great design. The 3 ways are having the large and small blades in as shown in the picture, and the third way is removing the brass spacer and using the small blades so you have greater control. The curved blades scoop exceptionally well, and the large straight blade is good enough to use for all the rest of the work. But, with the selection of 6 small blades you have a great range of blades for doing finer. I won't pretend that I know which of the smaller blades is better for which sort of detail work, but I do know that I like them a lot! All in all this is a really excellent kit. The only vague issue I could think of was that I now don't have as much length of blade as I used to use with my previous knives. At first this seemed a bit of a pain, but I quite quickly just adapted my style to work around that and it is no problem at all. The only other issue would be that the blades occasionally 'feel' a bit delicate (to me anyway). I think this is just due to them bein thinner metal than I've used previously and occasionally they boing or twang a little. I think this is just an aesthetic thing though as, even after a few months of fairly heavy handed spoon carving, they are still in top form and looking and working great. I would recommend this kit to anyone who would listen!"
"I've whittled a few spoons and a kuksa in burlwood withmy double edged mora crook kbife but I just couldn't lay hands on it so I bought this kit. Super impressed. There are a couple of blades that clamp on a wide tang and the rest clamp on a narrow tang. The handle copes super well with both and includes an ally spanner which won't blunt the blade if it makes contact :-) The Blades come ready to cut, sharp and edge polished. A great set that has opened my eyes to proper whittling knives :-D xx"
